Private Rating - Private Pilot Certificate

The Private Pilot Certificate is intended for helicopter enthusiasts who are interested in learning to fly as a hobby, or for those who intend to purchase their own helicopter. This rating allows you to take passengers flying in your helicopter or in an aircraft rented from us.

Requirements established by the Federal Aviation Administration, Part 61.103:

The applicant must -

• Be at least 17 years of age and be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language
• Pass the FAA written test for Private Pilot
• Log 40 hours of flight time in a helicopter that includes -
  

1. 20 hours of flight (accompanied by an authorized instructor) that includes -
   

• 3 hours of cross country flight training
• 3 hours of night flight training in a helicopter that includes -
  
  
  • 1 cross-country flight of at least 50 nautical miles total distance
  • 10 takeoffs and 10 landings to a full stop
    
    
• 3 hours of flight training in preparation for the practical exam (must have taken place within the preceding 60 days)
  

2. 10 hours of solo flight that includes -
   

• 3 hours of cross-country time
• 1 solo cross-country flight of at least 75 nautical miles total distance with landings at a minimum of 3 points. One segment of the flight must be a straight-line distance of at least 25 nautical miles between the takeoff and landing locations.
• 3 takeoffs and landings at an airport with an operating control tower
